Petwatch does not handle animals it is not a pet pound or shelter it concentrates its full efforts on drawing together data about pet losses working exclusively on the pet theft problem P.W.A is a non profit volunteer community based organisation. Petwatch Australia is funded by concerned pet owners and pet lovers with contributions of information volunteer labour and or kind.

Petwatch Australia:
- works closely with other animal welfare organisations and groups and draws together the information and data about local pet losses and produces reports on its findings.
- forms international links with organisations in various countries around the world where pet stealing is a national problem.
- continues to draw attention to the disparity in law between cat and dogs.
- works closely with the police to highlight the pet theft problem.
- investigates information on pet thieves and animal dealers.
